The update is in a pilot phase over the following weeks before a widespread launch. This development comes amid a rise in AI content, driven by recent AI video creators.

AI Content on Other Platforms

A large amount of this material is classified as mass-produced AI material, a phrase for inferior, bulk-generated content that is often illogical or surreal.

“We know from our community that numerous viewers appreciate content produced via AI tools, from computer-generated images to science explainers, and we want to give people the power to increase or decrease of that, according to their own preferences,” stated a platform representative.

Volume and Proportions

The service shared that there are now over a billion videos on its service identified as artificially created. Collectively, over 100 m media items are submitted to the service every day, making AI content a minor portion of its complete catalog.

TikTok is set to reduce a significant number of roles in its trust and safety team in the UK capital, with trade unions and online safety experts raising concerns that people are being substituted by AI moderation.

A trust and safety lead clarified that people-led review would remain essential, but automated tools can protect employees by removing the most harmful content ahead of it has to be seen by staff. The company announced a significant reduction in shocking and graphic content seen by human moderators over the past year due to the use of its AI tools.

We believe it is crucial to balance people and machines to ensure user safety,” the official commented. “We’ll have people as involved in the system, but we additionally believe it’s highly necessary to minimize viewing of unsafe media as rapidly, which is where a lot of the machine support is really helping us process content quickly.”
